Solar News Alert: Big solar delivers at half the price
Big Solar delivers new power station for Australian families at half the price The Australian solar industry has welcomed today’s announcement of the winner of the Solar Flagship program – a 159 megawatt solar PV plant in regional NSW – at half the original price tag.

“The Australian Solar Energy Society now urges the Australian Government to use the unallocated Solar Flagships funds to help deliver a swathe of 10-50 megawatt solar PV projects right across Australia.”

“Australian families know rooftop solar saves them money and can deliver cheaper power than polluting power stations.”

Malcolm receives 12,000 Voices Report

Monday 28-5-2012 was a great day at Canberra Parliament House as 30 polling volunteers from electorates across the country were able to meet with 50 Parliamentarians &/or their advisors to present our findings on your thoughts & the high levels of support regarding Solar Thermal power stations with the 12,000 Voices Report.

Devoting most of our Saturday mornings from mid March to mid May polling locals in the Wentworth electorate has been most enlightening & rewarding. We all love discovering new information especially when it can be explained in a few words. I think I became quite addicted to polling in my electorate, as almost everyone got really excited at the prospect of this new clean energy technology & I got to share in the joy & glow we all get when experiencing an exciting new discovery.

At 11am Monday 28-5-2012 Ian Rose (LBBS-W) & Dean Bridgfoot (100% Renewable) met with The Honourable Malcolm Turnbull in his Canberra Parliamentary offices.

Malcolm was genuinely pleased to receive our polling results showing 94% desire Solar Thermal power stations with 95% wanting Government assistance to build them & not at all surprised by the extremely high numbers in favour. I have been continually surprised at our findings while doing the polling, as so much of the mainstream media is always saying there are so many in our society that don’t feel the need to address clean energy options. I really don’t know how that sort of misinformation can be printed as fact. Here is how we asked the questions for our poll.

While getting such high rates of encouragement & desire for Solar Thermal from polling at the Bondi Beach Farmers Markets I thought I must be getting a biased point of view. So we did a couple of Saturdays, door-knocking random streets in Paddington & Woollarha getting the same results & with 100% support polled at Bondi Junction Mall on a weekday lunch time. As you can see from the national poll results, the consensus is in, when you do a direct question poll without any leading or biased misinformation you get these results.

We left Malcolm with a copy of the 250 comments collected from some of those polled from the Wentworth electorate encouraging him to Build Big Solar.

Martin Ferguson is ill-informed.

In Martin Ferguson’s ill-informed address to the Strategic Advisory Forum Clean Energy Council he says “The result is that the industry is confronted with a ‘Catch 22′ – companies are reluctant to invest in clean energy until it is technically and commercially proven, and yet it cannot be proven until investors are willing to take the risk to invest.”

Where as this is patently untrue, the reason investment is slow is the fossil fuel lobbyists look to be getting the $10billion from the carbon tax that is to go into renewable energy infrastructure.

The Government’s “Draft White Paper” on future energy supply & use to 2030 & 2050 is all about how we have to spend the money on Coal Seem Gas as a transitional source of power supply, suggesting solar thermal is not proven nor to go online till 2030 & even then only supplying 3% of our needs.

This is a poorly informed choice, it seems our politicians don’t know what is going on in the rest of the world. Check these links that show Desertec is investing $500billion right now building solar thermal in North Africa to power Europe & Nth Africa.

Seeing as so many different Governments & private enterprises can get it together to build a Solar Thermal energy source on one continent to power another continent, surely we can do it here.

After all we have the space, the sunshine & the money (we are the 5th richest per capita, 14th by gross out of 196 countries), all we need is the impetus & that means regular voters like us need to tell their local State & Federal MPs that we want Solar Thermal power.

At the moment our politicians seemed to be misinformed & bullied (or bribe persuaded) by the fossil fuel lobbyists, first saying Solar Thermal doesn’t exist & now saying Solar Thermal is unproven, both wrong as you have seen from the blue word links on this page.

Some argue that Solar Thermal is expensive but if you compare like for like, over the life time of a Solar Thermal power station with the life time of any Fossil Fuel power station, the costs of Solar Thermal is cheaper by half, & that is not taking into account expected price rises as fossil fuel runs out.

Write to the politicians & give them the information & links you find here on this website. Starting with the Federal Minister for Resources &  Energy – Martin Ferguson.

Here you will find the full list of address for MPs & Senators under Home Pages, Alphabetical.

Also from Chris Hartcher the NSW Energy Minister

Read his media release calling for the Renewable Energy Target (RET) to be abolished.

If you have a moment please write to him explaining your thoughts on why this is just too short-sighted to be forgiven, using some facts, plenty of which you will find on this website.

Big Solar Reaches Major Milestone

Large-scale solar reached a major milestone today with the first panels being placed on Australia’s largest solar power station.

The 10 megawatt First Solar Greenough River Solar Farm being built 50 kilometres south of Geraldton, Western Australia, will create around 100 local construction jobs.

The Chief Executive of the Australian Solar Energy Society, John Grimes, said today: “The Greenough River Solar Farm is a groundbreaking project, a window into Australia’s solar future.”

“Big Solar makes sense in the Mid West. The region’s enormous appetite for energy is matched by some of the best sunshine in the world. Solar increasingly makes economic sense in the Mid West, with a dramatic fall in the price of solar PV countering a significant rise in the cost of electricity.”

“The Greenough River Solar Farm will be the first of many Big Solar plants in the Mid West of WA.”

“Project partners First Solar, Verve Energy and GE Energy Financial Services, should be congratulated for opening the door to Australia’s solar future. The Western Australian Government should be commended for its commitment of $20 million to this important infrastructure project.”

“Big Solar has a very bright future in Australia. Submissions have just closed for the ACT solar auction, which will deliver 40 megawatts of large-scale solar in the first stage and 210 megawatts in total over coming years.”

“The combination of a price on carbon pollution, the 20% renewable energy target and the $10 billion Clean Energy Finance Corporation should help deliver more than 5 gigawatts (5,000 megawatts) of large-scale solar photovoltaics and 2 gigawatts (2,000 megawatts) of large-scale solar thermal by 2020, on top of many gigawatts of residential and commercial solar.”

“With the price of solar falling rapidly, there’s no reason why solar couldn’t provide a significant amount of Australia’s electricity needs by 2020.”

Our Launch

Let’s build Big Solar- Wentworth is part of a National Campaign “Let’s Build Big Solar”, taking place all across Australia. To create awareness of the cost cutting benefits for everyone, with this great new technology, Solar Thermal Power is the energy source for today’s & tomorrow’s increasing electricity demands.

Our Launch at Bondi Beach saturday the 10-3-12 was a great success with most of those polled wanting the Government to  build Solar Thermal power stations today, to satisfy our electricity needs into the future.      Photos on Launch PageCropped group.jpg

Many developed & developing Countries around the World are investing in Solar Thermal power stations for their electricity needs.

The Desertec vision is barreling into realization! A clean energy future where the world’s deserts supply huge amounts of solar energy to the whole of humankind is truly becoming reality. Now the fourth Desertec project, by far the largest-ever solar plant in the world – for  2,000 MW of solar power – is to be built in Tunisia. The plant will produce twice the amount of power of an average nuclear power plant. more…

As we are the World’s 14th richest (5th per capita) Nation of 196 Nations, there is no way anyone can really justify why we can not afford to do what will be creating massive savings in our future energy costs, & that is building Big Solar.
